A CCF Gift: Ears To Hear

Maidali’s mother knew in her heart that her child was not willfully disobedient, but Maidali's school thought otherwise. She was falling behind in class and often acted out. Her teachers said she never seemed to pay attention in class.

Her mother had seen this at home, too. Was Maidali ignoring her? The child would not complete simple chores at home despite her instructions. She never seemed to listen.

The staff at the Mission of Mercy project Maidali attended noticed these issues, too; when other children acted out like this, sometimes the cause was actually a hearing deficiency.

The project staff took Maidali to a hearing specialist, who determined that Maidali had a profound hearing loss in one ear and a mild impairment in the other. While she was glad to know Maidali’s disobedience was not necessarily on purpose, Maidali's mother now had a larger problem:

How could she pay for the hearing aids the audiologist recommended?

Maidali’s mother washed clothes for a living; her father could not find work. The very thing needed to turn Maidali’s life and education around was out of reach.

But the Mission of Mercy project staff knew the Lord would provide. Mission of Mercy established the Children’s Crisis Fund for this type of issue – they could intervene and provide the funds Maidali’s family needed. With the help and prayers of her sponsor and assistance from the CCF, Maidali received hearing aids and a better chance at life.

Now Maidali smiles and laughs and interacts with the other children more than ever before. She pays attention at school and at the project, much to the joy of her teachers and tutors.

Maidali’s mother expressed her joy that she knows her daughter can hear. Many of her worries – that Maidali was at risk when walking to and from school and the project because she could not hear approaching cars or people – subsided. And thankfully her relationship with her daughter has improved.

Poverty could have robbed Maidali of the ability to hear forever, her chances to learn and grow stymied by the cost of these devices. But because of the gift of sponsorship and the obedience of many of you in your giving, Mission of Mercy was able to meet Maidali’s need. Thank you for allowing us to reach out with Jesus’ hands to heal his children. As Maidali’s sponsor said, “To God be the glory!”
